Tom Broussard is an independent consultant and public speaker, providing career services, entrepreneurship, workforce development & training, and career preparation & education for both the private and public sectors.  He also has a strong background working with veterans and helping them prepare to succeed as they transition to education or employment after their service.

 

Tom learned most of what he knows about workforce readiness by leading large engineering and consulting teams. It became apparent to him that every success at work reflected strong teamwork and various other soft skills that individuals possessed. Tom decided to focus on developing training techniques to help any organization be successful through a workforce groomed to learn and adapt.

 

Tom wore many hats including President & owner of Career Prospects, Inc., a staffing, training and career counseling company. He was formerly the Director of the Maine State Workforce Investment Board; President, Junior Achievement of Maine; Chair, Maine Commission for Community Service; the Maine Promise Network; and the Maine Center for Career Preparation.

 

Tom was also the Associate Dean, Admissions & Career Services at the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University from 2007 until 2011.

Tom received his B.S. from the United States Naval Academy and his M.A. and his Ph.D. from the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University.  His research specialty is workforce development and the employment of people with disabilities. 

 

Tom had a stroke which introduced him to the next stage of learning.  He could not read, write or speak well.  It has been eight years since his stroke and his language has been getting better every day.  When he could not read, he promised that when he could, he would only read books about the brain, neuroscience and learning.  

His mission is helping people understand more about stroke, aphasia and aphasia awareness. His logo is called " Aim High for Aphasia!" as part of his Aphasia Awareness campaign.  Aphasia affects about two million Americans and is more common than Parkinson?s Disease, cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy. Nearly 180,000 Americans acquire the disorder each year. However, most people have never heard of it.

He is committed to speaking about strokes and aphasia in all 50 states; 24 down, 26 to go!
